Chris' mom, Heidi, passed away yesterday morning in her parents' home surrounded by her family.
Chris held her hand, brushed back her hair, placed his head on her chest as she took her last breaths.
He whispered to her that he's always loved her and always will.
I miss her so much it physically hurts.
Heidi traveled the world and made friends everywhere she went. She had a pearly white smile, incredibly generous spirit, and contagious laugh. Fiercely independent, she was a daredevil with a heart of gold. She was a phenomenal and passionate swimmer, caring teacher and a best friend to everyone. Her home was warm and inviting, a place to share stories, a meal and many laughs. She was a great daughter and had a very close relationship with her parents. She was the best big sister to her two younger sisters, they always had fun and many adventures together. Her most important role, being a mother, was what made her the most proud. Seeing her son, her pride and joy, would make her glow. She would grin from ear to ear and radiate love when Chris was around. Every time she saw him, she'd hug him so tight, he'd have to tickle her so she'd let go. With a hug and a giggle is how they always said "see ya later".
As I gave Heidi a final kiss on her forehead, I kissed her twice. I told her the first one was for her, and the second one was for my mom, could she please pass it along to her.
Heidi, I will forever hold you in my heart and just as I told you, I promise to take care of your little boy and love him with all my heart and soul. You may see me shed tears, but they are no longer tears of sadness, they are tears of love and relief to know you are truly in a better place.
Rest in paradise Heidi, I'll see ya later.
Her: A sleep deprived, slightly neurotic, knitting labor and delivery nurse. Him: A fun loving 9-year-old video game junkie trapped in an adult's body. She tries to get him to grow up, and he reminds her how to stay young... Two peas in a pod.
