After Berlin, we were originally supposed to take a train to Vienna, Austria. Well, we didn't anticipate a nearly $1,000 train ride to Austria, where after 5 days we'd have to take an even more expensive train ride back to Amsterdam where we would fly to London then to San Francisco. Instead, at the last minute, we decided to fly to London from Berlin. We scrambled to find a hostel on such short notice, but did end up in a pretty cool place.
Our room had four sets of bunk beds with 3 beds each. Could you imagine sharing a room with 11 other people?! Thank goodness we were the only ones in there.
The first thing we did in London was walk through the foot tunnel to Greenwich. Such a cute little part of London!
Where'd we walk to? Food of course! Burgers, yum.
The next day we went on our walking tour of London. Everywhere we went, there were so many people! It never occurred to us that we were there the week before the Royal Wedding until we saw William and Kate's faces everywhere and on everything. The weather was uncharacteristically warm as well, so everyone was taking advantage of the nice weather and heading outdoors.
Green Park!
Look at all the people in front of Buckingham Palace. It was nuts. There were police officers on horses in the streets telling people when they could cross the street, it was madness. Why? I have no idea - no one in the royal family was there (an extra flag flies when a member of the royal family is there), and it wasn't even time for changing of the guards.
Lots and lots and lots of things to see in London.
Countdown to the Olympics!
Big Ben and Tour Bridge.
London Eye.
One of the days we saw Billy Elliott - one of the best shows I've ever seen! We had a day of shopping and laying in Green Park to relax. We wanted to see and experience everything, but it was a vacation after all, so an ice cream and laying under the trees was nice.
After hauling our luggage and taking one last train, we were at Heathrow Airport one more time, and headed back home to good old California. Home sweetest home.
